全民健身日 National Fitness Day

       2008年8月8日,北京奥运会的成功举办,在华夏大地上掀起了一股体育热潮,“全民健身  与奥运同行”的理念深入人心。为了纪念奥运会的圆满成功,国务院批准从2009年起每年8月8日为“全民健身日”,旨在将健康向上的大众体育精神传达给公众,推广健康生活的理念。



National Fitness Day

The successful hosting of the Beijing Olympic Games on the eighth of August 2008 led to a sports fervour throughout China. It also introduced the idea that "Olympics and health of the nation" into the minds of the people. To commemorate the success of the Olympics, the State Council of China ratified that from 2009 onwards, the eighth of August of every year will be a "National Fitness Day"The aim of this is to promote health improvement awareness among the populace and to popularize ideas of healthy living.

On the 8th of August 2009, the first "National Fitness Day" was held. Beijing city invited nearly 40,000 Tai Qi aficionados to hold a collective Tai Qi demonstration in the Olympic park. This demonstration broke the Guiness world record. But this is only one of the activities on Beijing's National Fitness Day. The activity would continue for over two months. During this period there were approximately 4 million people attending over 4000 different fitness activities.

On August 8th   2010, China unfolded all kinds of fitness activities centring on the theme of "sports bringing health; health bringing happiness—national fitness voluntary services providing", for welcoming the next "National Fitness Day". To support nation-wide body building campaign, encourage more participation, lots of fitness centres would be open to the public free of charge on the day and thus allow citizens experience various fitness items and use sports equipment freely.
